I may be more ignorant then I thought on this code so I am doing some research. I hate not having my code books unpacked yet. Ok, I don't think I like V75.8 Lori because that is for a parasitic condition and Strep B is not. I am leaning towards V82.89 so far.

I did however find this great website and printed the list of codes: http://www.mdlab.com/pdf/icd9codes.pdf

Let me check on a more specific code unless someone else can jump in and give me a definite answer. Did I mention I missed my manuals. I have notes all over them.....

I meant to type 73.89 I was looking at the wrong thing. I bet you do knowing you lol. Hopefully you will get it all unpacked soon. How are you liking your new home?

Curious, curious, curious....I'm not so sure I've come up with the right code either...but I'll present my reasoning and see where this goes.
This is a curious question. Strep B is a bacteria, and by far the majority of screening for it is done in late pregnancy. That is probably why there is a specific V code for antenatal strep b screening. However, this bacteria can also cause health complications in adults, male and female, as it colonizes in the intestines, vagina, and rectum. Unfortunately, there does not appear to be a specific code for it, or at least not one as specific as V28.6 is for the expecting mother....so....

Would it fall under V73.89? I hesitate to use that one myself as it appears to apply solely to "other specified viral diseases", which strep b is not a virus.
I see under the same V73 category that some codes do apply to a bacteria, Chlamydia. However, I don't think I would use V73.88 "other specified chlamydial diseases". Although strep is a bacteria, I do not think it can be classified or coded as a chlamydial disease.

Might it be: V74.8 "Other specified bacterial and spirochetal diseases? It lists several under the code but does not list strep b. (However, this is the code I would use, until someone educates me otherwise.)

Might it be V74.9 "Unspecified bacterial and spirochetal disease"? Well, strep B is specified so no....

I don't know where to go for anything further....
