Honestly this just makes me sick Tiffany. You know from every article I am reading and other comments coming out in the coding blogs it appears that it is going to go through. Passed the house and Senate now off to the President. It was tacked onto another bill.

The head of AHIMA had been assured two weeks ago that this would not happen. She went twice to capitol hill. My thoughts are not in a good place right now when it comes to politics. Since I can't say something nice I am going to shut up. Give me a little time and I will try to come up with some better things to say. (big sigh)

Wow, we have been talking about this for weeks and how this would affect our organization, didn't think it would happen, should never say never in healthcare. Paying out of our noses to implement this, training workers and system updates, very disappointed. Is it just me or does this:-
"The Secretary of Health and Human Service may not, prior to Oct. 1, 2015, adopt ICD-10 code sets as the standard for codes sets."
sound kind of open ended?

Yes, very disconcerting. The way it is worded it could mean that we wait to some time beyond Oct. 1, 2015 to adopt ICD-10.

Who would write a law using such fuzzy wording? It's insane when the entire country's Healthcare system needs to work toward a specific date.

I for one am very upset by this too. There should not have been any reason for that clause to be put in that bill to begin with. If someone wanted I-10 delayed, it should have been given its own bill. I bet most of the people who voted did not even understand what they were voting on, or what that clause meant. This is going to turn the whole healthcare system on its head for the next year, at least. GRRRR!
