ICD-9-CM question vol. 1,2,&3 for hospitals

Denise Saunders

I am working on some homework and I am in need of where to start looking up a diagnosis.
I can find the answer on find-a-code...however I need to know/want to know how to look it up in the coding book. I know I need to look in the procedure section.

Intermittent positive-pressure breathing (IPPB)

thanks for your help.

You would look under Respiratory Therapy in the ICD-9-CM Vol. 3 Procedure Codes (93.91).

Here is the proper way of finding a procedure in ICD-9 Volumes 1 through 3 for hospitals:
1) intermittent positive-pressure breathing or IPPB is some kind of therapy
2) key word is Therapy
3) look in the Volume 3 index under Therapy and look for intermittent positive pressure breathing (IBBP)
4) the code would be 93.91 and turn to that code in the tabular list; it will be under Respiratory Therapy
Always look in the index to find your codes and then go to the tabular list for instructions.
