Q&A Code Lookup Tools

Can we go off topic for one question? I just passed CPC and can finally start looking up codes electronically. Before I sign up with any program I would like feedback on the various methods. I see Alicia always doing findacode.com. I see Laureen doing supercoder, and AAPC has a free trail of their new coder now too that seems pretty good. Can we discuss the differences and get feedback on what is worth the $$ or what works best for what? Thanks so much for all of the support!!

That is an excellent idea. I must say that I do use FindACode but that is because I have used it for the longest. While working HCC I had Free Encoder Pro and used it the most. Then Laureen connected with SuperCoder and they are doing great work with CCO. You can get a discount with SuperCoder if you use a CCO code. We will have to ask what that is because at the moment is escapes me.

That being said. With what the AAPC offers you might want to start with them and get a feel for using an on-line program. You do have to be creative sometimes when using them. These programs are only as good as the person's knowledge using them. For me I am a creature of habit. I don't like having to learn something new unless I have to do it. Not a good thing by the way.

In my opinion with the programs I have used I think SuperCoder has the most bang for the money right now. Take advantage of all the training videos they offer and get comfortable with what it offers. That is the key to success.

Laureen is much more of an expert in these then I am and can give us experienced feedback. She really shops around and does research when looking at programs. She wants to make sure she uses a product that offers the most again for the buck.

Curious about other's thoughts.

I prefer supercoder.com and I have used other software tools as well. I believe you should try samples and see what you are most comfortable with. I am not sure about the other coding software tools, but I like the ease of acquiring ceus to maintain your CPC through the supercoder.com website.

Right now, I am using AAPC Coder free trial until December 31, 2013. Starting in January 2014, I will be using AAPC Coder Lite which is one step down from AAPC Coder. I have not tried SuperCoder, but I am considering trying it out.

SuperCoder has two products: Code Search and Fast Coder. Which one does the CCO discount is good for? Thanks!

Carolyn, I just checked with Laureen. Despite what you might have seen in other forum posts or wherever, CCO does not offer a discount for any Supercoder product.

Hi All,

Supercoder has three different packages. And we do offer discounts for multiple users. The basic Package is for 99.95 a year which offers you a simple codesearch with layman terms for all codes(including ICD-10) and illustrations where applicable. The second package offers you LCDs, NCDs, and CCI edits checker along with the code search. The third package is a comprehensive specialty specific coding solution which offers you the features of the basic and the level 2 packages along with newsletters for that specialty and a claims scrubber as well with a built in batch scrubber for CMS 1500(the best feature as per users). The second package is for 199.95$ and the best one for 399.95. We also offer free CEUs along with the packages(upto 38 a year with the comprehensive package and upto 18 with the basic one).

Secondly, if anybody has read the newsletters offered in the AAPC trial - it clearly says that the newsletters are from the "coding institute" and Supercoder is a product of the coding institute.

Please let me know if you would like a free demo of the complete package to explore the features mentioned above and a host of other features.

my email is brennans@codinginstitute.com

Cheers and Happy Coding!!!
