Blitz2014/page 16 of CPT manual

Hi,

I am looking at the E/M section of the 2014 DVD.

On page 16 of the CPT manual, it says:

Admitting/Attending physicians use mod=ai

What does the phrase mod=AI mean?

I would highly appreciate your help.

It means use modifier AI. This can be found in the CPT manual, inside the front cover, in the right column under Level II (HCPCS/National). There it says AI means "Principal physician of record". Your HCPCS manual, Appendix 2 also lists modifiers, but it does not give any additional info in this case. If you are coding for the Admitting/Attending physician append modifier AI to your E/M code from that section.
