I need help in which direction I should go in correcting the Dx for this situation. The patient is an adult patient who is seeing his Primary care Dr. related to an accident. The patient tells the provider he feels his accidents are associated with his past childhood trauma which causes the patient to have accidients. The provider uses one of the dx codes as 995.5 (not as primary dx, but 4th) but this dx is only used for children through age 17. How would I code for an adult who is being treated for past childhood trauma? Thanks for any help.

Take a look at V15.49. Personal history of other psychological trauma. I think this would work if it was psychological trauma as opposed to physical trauma that the person experienced. Other codes in the subcategory of V15.4x may be better depending on the situation.

Post Childhood trauma is very risky and needs to be removed as soon as possible with the help of a child psycologist
