Very interesting indeed. Thanks for posting Lori. You know I am seeing some changes after reading the entire report. A noteworthy point is that these smaller group practices are selling out to the larger ones. Large practices keep coding in house. This may change with 2014 and all the changes in ICD-10. It is going to be something to follow.

Needless to say people who have more certifications make more money. I was not surprised with the CPC-H because surgery centers are one of the groups that still make a profit.

I would ask myself what interests me most. As far as pay I would think the CPC-H is one to obtain because it gives authority in the surgery centers. Next if you want one for the future that will benefit your for job security I would go with Auditing or E/M. Both are in big demand for remote work. However if you want a specialty for the top three on the pay scale of specialty it has been Cardiology, Oncology and OBGYN as they seem to be the most complex.

1. What do you like? (Ortho, ENT, Cardio...)
2. What are your long term career goals?
3. What does your area need?

I think you are like me. If you had the money you would just start taking tests and playing alphabet soup. :)
